Net Notes

SOME OF THE NETS WE CARRY

Kowabunga Net

Say what you want to, no topic is off-limits just do it honestly and respectfully.

This early morning weekday net has been on for almost ten years now. Started by Russell, KB9NSK has been our primary morning gathering on the conference server. The Kowabunga Net meets every morning Monday through Saturday as a directed round table and on Sundays as a simple ragchew every week of the year regardless of holidays. We are a very relaxed group who like to get together for a morning discussion. The KOWABUNGA net is not a coffee and weather net, we talk politics, religion, current events and technology and anything else that comes to mind. Russell is still a mainstay net control after all of these years, hosting the nets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Darryll,VO1UKZ is the host on Wednesdays and Fridays. Kevin, KM1X DOES does the Saturday net and Gray, KC2PKG, does Mondays. If you too are an early bird, hopefully we will hear you on the Kowabunga Net on the Echolink DODROPIN conference server. The KOWABUNGA net lasts about 2 and a half hours and often runs over. People have a lot to say and we let them say it.

Worldwide Friendship Net

The Worldwide Friendship Net is a large group of Amateur Radio Operators (or HAMs), that get together on the air and on the Internet every day at 14:00 UTC (7:00am PST or 10:00am EST) for about one hour to exchange information and goodwill to all parts of our globe. The net was started about fifteen years ago, and has been in continous operation, seven days a week, three hundred sixty five days a year. The net can be accessed via linked repeaters, Echolink and IRLP and is open to all licensed Amateur Radio Operators World Wide.

Puget sound repeater group

The Puget Sound Repeater Group is a non-profit organization that maintains and operates a 2-meter FM Amateur Radio repeater system in the Seattle area, serving primarily North Seattle, from about Downtown through Shoreline, and east to about Bothell (although we’ve had people use the repeater regularly from as far away as Olympia and Everett). We currently have more than 200 members. The repeater is maintained by member volunteers for use by members and non-members alike. The repeater hosts several regular nets. Anyone with an Amateur license is welcome to use the repeater. Nets run at 9:00 am, noon and 9:00 pm PST on the DoDropin. (That’s 12pm, 1500 and 00 EST)

The SCIENCE Net

In what can only be described as one of the most unique, intriguing and informative nets ever to exist in amateur radio, Ken Baine VA3KEX takes listeners on a journey through science and technology, unravelling the mysteries of the universe from the plank scale to the gigaparsec.

The net which takes on a podcast-radio show like feel, allows listeners to engage with Ken and one another. As he offers trivia, answers questions and dive deep into some of the most interesting topics of modern science.

The net also features special guest amateur radio operators bringing their expertise in unique fields from autonomous technologies, weather and climate to medical sciences.

Once you join the Science Net, you’ll understand why it’s like no other.
